Hi, I'm Lilly, a female budgie, who came to Mickaboo in May 2023 due to my owner`s life changes.

I spent the first few years of my life in a shoebox-sized cage. My owner finally posted me on Craigslist, and a kind man from Santa Rosa took me home. He put me in a big cage with his other budgie. Only then did he realize I couldn't fly. He made accommodations to my cage with ramps and perches so I could flutter and climb both in and out of our cage and down to the floor and up to the cage roof where we liked to hang out. I was happy!

My owner went out of town and asked someone to check in on us while he was away. When that person came, my cage mate was dead on the bottom of the cage and the room was icy; below 40 degrees.

To make a long story short, I ended up at Mickaboo and am getting settled in a cozy foster home. The vet found me to be 30% smaller than most budgies; she attributes my size and the fact that I can't fly to my confinement and likely a poor diet. I tested negative for they typical budgie illnesses, and I`m getting used to a healthier diet of Nutrian cakes, veggies and seed. I LOVE corn on the cob and listening to music. I am happiest in the company of other gentle budgies. Each night I ”coo” myself to sleep.

I'm a sweet girl. Can you find it in your heart to give me a forever home?

In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
