Hi, I`m Sploot! I am a boy budgie found in a yard in Los Altos Hills and surrendered to Mickaboo in September 2022. I am a splay-legged little guy. My finder took me to the vet, who said that since I am not a baby bird, sadly my legs cannot be splinted and corrected. The vet thinks maybe the owner tossed me out into the wild due to the issue.

My foster mom says I am a bright, active, adorable little guy. I get around my modified cage well and I`m a strong flier! I`m able to grip onto things with my feet and slide myself around surprisingly well! I lie on my tummy in my foster parent`s hand, and she says I am so soft!!

I love chirping with the other budgies, crunching on chew toys, and playing with my toys. I eat Harrison`s and Nutri-an cakes, and I *love* to be hand fed lettuce. They keep trying to get me to like other other vegetables, but so far I`m stubborn and only tried one small pea.

Because of my legs, I have trouble fitting into a flock hierarchy. I`m not able to move away quickly and easily if another budgie tries to display dominant behavior, so tensions can quickly escalate. In my last home, I was picked on by the other budgies. So, I need to be in my own cage unless I can be paired with a very, very gentle bird! I am very interested in other birds and I`m content in my modified cage near another budgie cage, where I can sweetly chatter at them and watch them throughout the day.

Could you find it in your heart to take care of a sweet special needs guy like me?

In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
