Hi, I`m Dunbar. I came to Mickaboo via the Sacramento Shelter in June 2021. I`m receiving special care and can`t come in contact with other birds because I have PBFD, a viral disease that weakens my beak, feathers, and nails.
I`ve gotten a bit slower and quieter over the past few years, but I like to live like there`s nothing wrong with me. I still like singing with my foster mom -- we have a concert every morning! -- and taking millet from her hand. I`m loved and well cared for, and my quality of life is good.
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
